How to remove eyelash extensions

Getting eyelash extensions can be such a fun and exciting process! Not only is getting your lashes filled relaxing, you leave the studio with fluttery gorgeous lashes that you’ll want to keep forever!

However, we all know that life gets busy and sometimes making the time for your bi-weekly lash appointment just isn’t in the cards. In order to avoid significant gaps in your lashes, you may want to consider having them removed until you’re ready for a new, full set.

The best thing to do in this case is to get in touch with your lash artist to remove your eyelash extensions. They are professionals and can safely remove them with little to no damage to your natural lashes.

If you’re in the Phoenix area, you can get in touch with me and I would happily remove them for you!

Can you let eyelash extensions grow out and fall off?

Yes! Absolutely. This is one of the safer ways to remove your eyelashes, but the downside is that it takes several weeks because it depends on the fallout rate of your natural lashes. As your natural lashes shed, so will your lash extensions. You may have a variety of lash lengths which can be frustrating and not as appealing aesthetically. If you let them grow out, there will be no damage to your natural lashes.

There are two options for removing your eyelash extensions - having your lash professional remove them in their studio, or removing them yourself at home.

How NOT to Remove Your Eyelash Extensions:

  • Never pick or pull at your lashes!  We want to avoid breakage to your natural lashes, so do not cut or pull at your extensions!
  • Avoid touching the extensions when your hands aren’t clean since you can spread bacteria to your lash line and the surrounding eye area.
  • Do not cut your lashes with scissors. You will risk cutting your natural lashes as well! Cutting them shorter actually delays the shedding process.

What products can I use to remove my eyelash extensions at home?

Your lash artist likely warned you not to use oil-based products - and for good reason! Now that we want to remove them, find an oil-based product or make-up remover to help break the bond of the lash glue.

I have tested several different lash removal products and the one that I use exclusively for my clients is the Salty Lash Gel Remover.

How to use the Salty Lash Gel Remover:

  1. Open the gel remover and apply it to a clean, dry spoolie
  2. Gently brush the lashes from the top in an outward motion. You’ll start to see the lash extensions separate from the natural lashes.
  3. Continue this process until all lashes are removed.

The Salty Lash Gel Remover is available for both clients and lash artists in the Salty Lash Shop! These products are professional grade and my tried and true recommendations!

Interested in becoming a lash artist yourself? I teach motivated women how to start and grow their own lash extension business with the Salty Lash certification. You can learn more about the online certification process here. We would LOVE to have you!

Another trick is, before bed dip an eyelash spoolie into castor or coconut oil and apply a small amount to your lashes.  You may need to do this multiple nights in a row, the results won’t be immediate.

Removing eyelash extensions doesn’t have to be a difficult process! Remember, if you want to go the safest and most efficient route to remove your eyelash extensions, I recommend booking an appointment with your professional eyelash artist.
